Lyman Orchards Middlefield CT

Lyman Orchards is a weekend staple that you remember from when you were a kid. Now, you’re taking your kids. Bailey and I took a carriage ride one weekend where we were the only ones on it before fall was in full force. The driver took us on a tour of the grounds and the Lyman Homestead and shared some history with us. Lyman has one of the oldest family businesses in the east with the original foundation of the homestead being built in 1875.

The grounds are beautiful with gorgeous views of central Connecticut from the top of the orchards. Lyman’s is known for apple picking. You can also run through the corn maze and take your little ones on pony rides. Coming up is their annual Paint the Pumpkin Pink event to support October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. You can paint, glitter and bejewel your pumpkin for a great cause. Half of the revenue is donated to Middlesex Comprehensive Breast Center.

Bishop’s Orchard Guildford, CT

Walk up to the apple orchard at Bishop Orchards and you are greeted with a collecting bag and a ‘Know Your Apples Overview’ sheet. This place is for serious apple pickers. Professional, I’d say. With twenty varieties of apples to choose from, there is one apple tree more beautiful than the last. Bishop’s market offers fresh produce and floral arrangements, home décor and plants. Also a great spot to pick pumpkins, Bishop’s is a scenic drive through Guilford.

Strawberry Hallow Farm Guilford, CT

On the way home from Bishops Orchard we stumbled upon this little gem. Strawberry Hallow Farm is straight out of a fairy tale. A man made stone wall leads you down to the enchanted grounds. Towering corn stalks and pumpkins capped the lush green grass for little ones to run around until their hearts content. Head over to the barns and pumpkin patch to see the giant pumpkins and pick out the most adorable mini gourds. Bring your camera, this is the perhaps place to catch an inspirational fall photo.
