After a long 2020, 2021 is all about finding balance! Balance means everything in moderation so it shouldn’t always mean giving up the things you love. For me it’s taking care of my health, eating well, taking care of my family and leaning into things that bring me joy. Like good food and my creative aspirations.
Here I’ll be sharing 3 tips for eating well, incorporating a well-balanced diet and still enjoying the things you love! With more time at home and more time to snack, getting organized in eating well will feel great.
Tip 1: Work with Your Grain
For a gal like me who loves pizza, pasta and all the hearty dishes, it’s unrealistic to go from that to say… all salads. Going against your grain only leads to unrealistic expectations in which you won’t meet. Ensure you take your preferences into consideration. One thing I could never live without?! Pizza!
Always having a delicious Freschetta Gluten Free Pizza in the freezer makes me happy. Pepperoni is one of my favorite flavors of frozen pizza and theirs is made with 100% real cheese! Plus, I can feel good about its gluten-free and preservative-free crust as a better frozen pizza option.
Tip 2: Get Everyone Involved in the Shopping
One of the ways I get the kids to eat healthy is I let them choose what fresh fruits, veggies and grocery store items they want. When they pick out big, beautiful fruit they want to eat it as soon as they are home. Picking out their own groceries gives them ownership of what they are eating.
Tip 3: Plan Your Meals Ahead
If I don’t plan my meals ahead, what happens is I get busy and HANGRY! The next thing you know I’m reaching for junk food. When I build out my shopping list, I’m actually planning ahead for the meals I cook during each week.
Whether I’m using a notebook or my Simple Recipes Pinterest Board, I’m always collecting dinner ideas to put on rotation during the week for my family. Even if I am using prepared or pre-packaged food, I will still plan sides and mains to ensure I’m hitting all the food groups at the table plus taking into account each family member’s preferences.
Tip 4: Have Better-For-You “Fast” Options on Hand
Stocking your freezer with better-for-you favorites helps to ensure what you go for when you’re hungry will make you feel good. I live by the rule of thumb, if my family can’t see it, they won’t eat it. Which means a bowl of fresh fruit is always front and center on our countertops with veggies and other healthy foods within eyesight in the fridge.
There is ALWAYS a Freschetta Gluten Free Pizza on hand in my freezer at all times! I love the thin crust and tomato sauce, and Pepperoni is always a good idea. You can pick up their Pepperoni or Four Cheese Pizza in the freezer aisle of your local grocery store.
