Sugar, sugar, sugar. After two years of feeding my kid nothing but natural goodness…she’s got the sugar kick. Everything in moderation Moms! But if you are going to give her sugar, give her the good stuff. Artificial sweeteners are just one chemical after another. Nature is full of sweet things…fruit! After a day collecting at the orchard, we had more strawberries than we knew what to do with. You can use any berry, fruit or veggie to make these. Easy to make, just need a little time. Get yo’ sugar rush on.
4 cups of strawberries, hulled
¾ cup white sugar
Juice of one lemon, halved and squeezed fresh
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Blend together your fruit, sugar and lemon juice on high in a blender until smooth. Transfer mixture into a medium sauce pan. Bring up to a simmer over medium heat. Lower heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir along the way. The mixture will thicken.
Line a baking sheet with non stick foil or parchment paper. (I used parchment paper as no transfer after it’s baked) Pour the mixture into the pan and spread evenly. Ensure it’s as evenly spread as possible. Place in preheated oven and bake for 4-5 hours. There should be no liquid left and it will resemble fruit ‘leather’.
Pull out and let completely cool. If you have baked on tin foil be sure to remove and place on wax paper. Now you can slice it up into strips and roll or cut out fun shapes. The littles will make it sticky, but it’s so worth it!
