Jamestown, Rhode Island

I just have to share our  weekend impromptu stop in Jamestown, RI. Memorial Day weekend and Bailey and I are on our first of the summer routine road trip to Newport. Breezing down 95 and through the gorgeous countryside of Kingstown Rhode Island,  we were well on our way to our favorite sea-side town when we hit a dead halt. Zero moving traffic over the Pell Bridge. After what felt like the slowest 30 minute motionless creep of my life, I pulled off the only possible exit into Jamestown. A quick mile along the shore of the island and we ran into beautiful shingled mansions with hydrangea anchored landscapes, fishermen casting on local docks and several happy tail wagging Labradoodles. This was my slice of cake.

We parked along a side street and walked down to East Ferry Wharf where docked beauties and quaint beaches waited for us with a view of the bridge. Bailey got her feet in the water on the beach right away and collected shells until her heart’s content, stopping to pet every dog as they walked by. After we had enough sun we took a stroll up Narragansestt Ave. taking in all the shops, restaurants and flower lined streets. Making our way back down to the wharf, Bailey had the Blueberry Ice Cream at Spinnakers Café. She had no qualms about sharing…which in Bailey’s world means double-fisting Mom’s chocolate cone and alternating licks as fast as she can.

We could see from our perfect little Saturday spot, the bridge had finally cleared up with swift moving traffic over the Atlantic and into Newport. We were on our way.
